Shenzhen Adventure

Welcome to Shenzhen, land of palm trees, mosquitoes and air conditioning. My daughter and I have just moved in. I will be teaching English to small children, and my daughter will be a small child while we are here. I am keeping this blog in lieu of doing a newsletter, or writing copious emails all containing the same information to all of my friends, family and distant relations back home, but anyone is welcome to peruse it.

I have successfully managed to get the photos from my camera to my iPad to my computer (my dad is a troubleshooting genius). Soon I will master the art of uploading, and then you can marvel at Athena’s handiwork (she takes most of our pictures these days).

I am loving this humorous tone and patient culture shock. I hope you keep writing though the new will start to wear off and your teaching duties will mount.

    Hi Trillian,

Your blog has been bookmarked. Carla and I will check back often and will keep you and Athena in our prayers!

Thanks, Danny and Carla. It’s nice to have people from NSF with me on my adventure. In the spirit of Jan and others who come back from trips and share: “That’s right, you’ve all just moved to Shenzhen. You are all sweating profusely and floundering about with a language you don’t speak.”

Me too. I read your blog regularly and love how you write. I even made a link directly to it on my smart phone so I can read it whenever I want. It is true that we are all with you on this adventure in a real way. And… you are here with us in Seattle. I miss you–especially our coffee times, but I’m so excited for you and Athena. I was in my 20s when I went to Bolivia for 13 months and it was a life changing experience for me. But I can really relate to the confusion, cultural shock, and the inability to understand what people are saying. Love you!! Lorraine

    Trillian –
Just found your blog via Facebook. What a great adventure for you and Athena!
You’re such an articulate writer. I’m glad I found this. Enjoy every minute, even the not-so-enjoyable ones.
